Investment Minister attends signing of MoU between ILO, NBK-Egypt

Cairo: Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO)'s Office in Cairo Peter Van Rooij and Managing Director of the National Bank of Kuwait - Egypt (NBK-Egypt) (NBKE) Yasser Ismail Hassan signed a memorandum of understanding to establish 100 home biogas units in Minya governorate.

This falls within the framework of the ILO's Decent Jobs for Egypt's Young People (DJEP) project.

Investment and International Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr, Minya Governor Essam Badawi and Canadian Ambassador to Egypt Jess Dutton‏ attended the signing ceremony.

Under the agreement, the National Bank of Kuwait will support sustainable social and economic development of rural communities in Egypt via offering financial support for five startups to facilitate the construction and operation of 100 home-sized biogas units in villages of Minya.

Speaking on the occasion, the investment minister said that a Selected Public Employment Services (PES) office will be opened in Minya to improve the way the methods and tools of employment matchmaking with more effective employment services to both employers and young job seekers.

She further expressed the Investment Ministry's keenness on backing youth.

Biogas can be produced from raw materials such as agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste or food waste. Biogas is a renewable energy source.
