TAQA Arabia launches largest solar power plant in Sharm El-Sheikh

Arab Finance: TAQA Power, a subsidiary of TAQA Arabia, has begun the operations of the largest solar power plant in Sharm El-Sheikh, according to an emailed press release on October 13th.

Built on an area of 250,000 square meters (sqm), the plant has a production capacity of over 42 gigawatts-hour a year.

Managing Director of TAQA Power Sami AbdelKader noted that the project has been completed in a short time with a total investment of EGP 250 million.

The project is set to reduce carbon emissions by nearly 500,000 tons throughout its lifespan of up to 25 years, AbdelKader added.

“Today, as Egypt assumes the incoming Presidency of COP 7 in Sharm El-Sheikh, TAQA Arabia is launching the largest clean energy solar plant in Sharm el-Sheikh, with a total capacity of 20 megawatts,” Executive Chairman of TAQA Arabia Khaled Abu Bakr commented.

"In line with TAQA Arabia’s support of the Egyptian government’s plan and strategy to transition to clean energy, and in continuance of TAQA Arabia's plans to expand its renewable energy portfolio, we have successfully developed and started operation of 20 megawatts capable of supplying clean electricity to more than 6,000 hotel rooms with clean electricity,” Chief Executive Officer of TAQA Arabia Pakinam Kafafi said.

He also pointed out that more than 100 workers of engineers and technicians participated in the construction of the station to serve the Nabq tourist region, where Global Energy company is licensed to distribute electricity and carry out a self-consumption system.

It is worth noting that TAQA Arabia is a subsidiary of Qalaa Holdings Company, providing over 1.7 million customers with their daily energy needs.
