Arab Finance: TAQA Arabia and its partner Voltalia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian government to develop, finance, and operate a 150-kilo-tons-per-annum green hydrogen production facility, according to an emailed press release on December 7th.

The initial project will cover the construction of a green hydrogen facility with a capacity of 15,000 tons per year in a greenfield site near Ain Sokhna Port in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The project will be expandable to up to 150,000 tons a year of green hydrogen with an electrolyzer of an aggregate of 1 gigawatt supplied by solar and wind energies of 2.7 gigawatts.

The MoU was signed with CEO of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) Ayman Soliman, Chairman of the General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Waleid Gamal ElDien, CEO of TAQA Arabia Pakinam Kafafi, Voltalia Country Manager Karim El Ezzawy, Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) Mohamed El-Khayat and Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) Salah Ezzat.

“We are thrilled to partner with the French Voltalia, a leading renewable energy player and a service provider with strong global presence. As Egypt’s leading private sector energy and utility provider, TAQA Arabia is committed to contribute to building Egypt's green economy. This cooperation comes in support of Egypt's sustainable energy strategy 2035”,” Khaled Abubakr, Executive Chairman of TAQA Arabia, said.
