Egypt safely disposes 99% of abandoned goods at ports

Arab Finance: The Egyptian Customs Authority (ECA) has been successful in the safe disposal of 99% of hazardous and abandoned goods at ports so far, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait stated in a statement on September 17th.

Proceeds from selling abandoned goods at ports since January 2020 until now stood at EGP 1.3 billion, Maait added.

The tracking units at the ECA are working on the safe disposal of abandoned goods at all ports as per the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to protect the environment and ensure the safety of ports and citizens.

For his part, El-Shahat Ghatouri, head of the ECA, said that a committee comprised representatives from the ECA’s bodies and tracking units is responsible for monitoring warehouses at ports on a quarterly basis.
