US’ annual inflation eases to 8.3% in August

ArabFinance: The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers edged higher by 0.1% month-on-month (MoM) in August 2022, but slowed down annually to 8.3%, according to a report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States on September 13th.

The MoM rise in inflation is ascribed to increases in indices of shelter, food, and medical care.

Nevertheless, the impact of these increases was mitigated by a 10.6% MoM decline in the gasoline index.

The food index rose 0.8% MoM, while the energy index decreased by 5% MoM.

The US’ inflation edged down on an annual basis, reaching 8.5% in July 2022, compared to 9.1% in the same month a year earlier, stabilizing on a monthly basis.
