NTRA confirms customs exemption for one mobile phone per traveler

Arab Finance: The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) confirmed continued customs duties exemption for mobile phones brought into Egypt by a passenger from abroad, as per a statement.

As a part of the pilot phase under the mobile phone governance system, the NTRA allows the entry of one mobile device per traveler without customs duties.

The authority said approximately 650,000 devices with travelers coming from abroad were exempted from customs duties since the beginning of 2025.

It detected some manipulation and fraud cases, which resulted in the suspension of about 60,000 devices. Only 13,000 devices were confirmed to have violated the regulatory procedures.

Meanwhile, 47,000 mobile devices have been verified and restored.
