Egypt initiates refugee audit to review state’s support

Arab Finance: The Egyptian government has started an audit of refugee populations residing in the country, according to a statement on January 8th.

This was revealed during a meeting headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to review the contributions of the Egyptian state in caring for its guests of various nationalities.

During a meeting, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said that nearly 9 million refugees from about 133 countries are living in Egypt, 50.4% of which are males and 49.6% are females.

The refugees represent 8.7% of the Egyptian population, the minister noted.

Abdel Ghaffar added that 56% of the refugees reside in five governorates, namely Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Daqahlia, and Damietta.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior called on all non-nationals residing in Egypt to begin taking procedures to prove residency as of January 1st, 2024.
