Arab Finance: The Egyptian General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) has signed a contract to import 100,000 tons of sugar, Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade announced in a statement.
The move aims to increase the country’s strategic reserves of sugar.
The country’s strategic reserve of sugar is sufficient until July 2024, the statement read.
It is worth noting that the country’s production of sugar from sugarcane has commenced as of January, while production of sugar from beets will begin starting March.
In December 2023, the ministry revealed that the GASC signed a contract to import 50,000 tons of sugar, set for delivery in February.
