Cabinet amends regulations governing private free zones’ projects

Arab Finance: The Egyptian cabinet has ratified a number of amendments to the executive regulation’s provisions governing the implementation of projects in private free zones, according to a cabinet statement on May 24th.

As per the amendments, projects executed in private free zones shall abide by the rules of industrial security, civil defense, and fire safety.

The projects shall also secure their industrial premises and borders by guard towers and surveillance cameras as well as employ security officers.

Furthermore, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) shall follow up on these projects and the procedures taken by them to practice their activities.

In addition, the projects’ registries and documents shall be at GAFI’s control during inspection and follow-up processes.

The cabinet has the right to exclude any project from complying with one or more of these conditions based on each project separately, the statement read.

The authority’s board is entitled to approve or cancel the establishment of these projects, in addition to licensing their activities.
