Egypt’s online, mobile banking transactions hit EGP 11.7T in 2024: CBE

Arab Finance: Subscribers to online and mobile banking services in Egypt hit 18 million, implementing 114 million transactions at a total value of EGP 11.7 trillion at the end of 2024, Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), announced.

Abdalla affirmed that recent years have witnessed tangible achievements in the digital transformation of the banking sector, thanks to initiatives and projects launched by the CBE.  

His remarks came during the Inauguration of the 12th edition of the Digital Payments, Financial Inclusion, and the Digital Banking “PAFIX”.

The Meeza card system issued more than 43.5 million cards by June 2025, while mobile wallets under Meeza Digital reached 55.5 million, with nearly 1.4 billion transactions executed at a total value surpassing EGP 1.8 trillion.

As for the Instant Payment Network and the InstaPay app, their number of users exceeded 16 million until June 2025, processing over 1.1 billion transactions at EGP 2.4 trillion.

Launched in December 2024, the National Card Tokenization Platform enabled the activation of contactless payment services via smartphones, including Apple Pay.

It witnessed the execution of 40 million transactions, valued at over EGP 32 billion, at the end of June 2025.
