- According to the most recent Global Innovation Index data, Egypt ranked 50th worldwide in 2022 for the number of patent applications, securing the 2nd position among Arab nations, just behind Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Egypt achieved a global ranking of 53rd for trademark filings, reflecting its growing emphasis on intellectual property and innovation.
- In 2023, the total number of patent applications in Egypt reached 2,101, marking a 9.8% increase from the previous year. Of these applications, 65.7% were filed by foreigners residing in Egypt, while Egyptians contributed just 34.3% of the total. This distribution highlights the significant role that international applicants play in Egypt's patent landscape.
- In 2023, the number of approved or registered patents in Egypt dropped to 317 from 512 in 2022. Among these, 246 patents, or 77.6%, were granted to foreigners, while Egyptians received 22.4% of the patents.
- Among foreign patent applicants in Egypt, Americans led with a 13.6% share, followed by Germans at 8.8%.
