Egypt’s net international reserves reach $57.35B end-September: CBE

Arab Finance: Egypt’s net international reserves reached $57.35 billion at the end of September 2026, up from $57.215 billion a month earlier, according to data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

Gross official reserves rose to $57.350 billion from the $49.536 billion recorded in September 2025.

Foreign currency holdings stood at $39.292 billion at the end of September 2026, up from $33.649 billion in the same month a year earlier.

Meanwhile, gold reserves amounted to $17.456 billion, up from $15.843 billion in September 2025.

Special drawing rights (SDRs) reached $602 million, compared to $44 million in September 2025.

International reserves are external assets held by the central bank, including foreign currencies and gold. Egypt’s main sources of foreign currency include remittances from Egyptians working abroad, export revenues, and Suez Canal receipts, among others.

Managed by the CBE, the reserves serve as a buffer against external economic shocks and help strengthen the country’s ability to meet its external obligations.
