Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk has confirmed that the price of subsidized bread, priced at EGP 0.20 per loaf on ration cards, will remain unchanged despite the recent increase in diesel prices.

The recent fuel price increases imposed by the Egyptian government will not be reflected on subsidized bread.

The Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has formed a committee to examine the prices of making bread at public and private bakeries as well as bakeries affiliated with sovereign bodies for the first time since 2020.

Increasing the price of a subsidized loaf of bread in Egypt is projected to yield savings of approximately EGP 13.7 billion in the upcoming fiscal year (FY) 2024/2025.

The price of subsidized bread loaf will be increased to EGP 0.20 as of June 1st, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced.

The Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhy has issued a ministerial directive aimed at organizing operations in municipal bakeries and distribution points for essential commodities and other commercial activities during the month of Ramadan, as per a statement by the ministry.

Egypt will start selling subsidized bread to non-ration cardholders starting next January, Abdullah Ghorab, head of the bakeries division at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (Fedcoc), said.

The Egyptian government will offer subsidized bread for citizens not enrolled in its bread subsidy program under the country’s ration cards, Supply Minister Ali El-Moselhy was quoted as saying by Reuters on January 16th.
