Arab Finance: The installation of the first transformer at the 500-kilovolt (kV) Egyptian-Saudi interconnection station in Badr City has commenced, according to a statement by the Ministry of Electricity.
The transformer marks the first of its kind in the Middle East in terms of size, manufacturing technology, operation, and use on interconnection lines between grids.
In mid-July, it was reported that Egypt and Saudi Arabia implemented 60% of their joint electrical interconnection project, with the first phase of operation to kick off in July 2025 at a cost of $1.8 billion.
