Arab Finance: Banks in Egypt will be closed on Thursday, October 8, in celebration of Armed Forces Day and the anniversary of the 6th of October War victory, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced.
Working at banks will resume on Sunday, October 11.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly previously declared the same day a paid holiday for employees of ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, and public business sector companies.
The holiday replaces the observance on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Since 2020, the Egyptian government has moved several midweek public holidays to the nearest Thursday to create long weekends. Major religious holidays and Labor Day are exempt from this policy.
