EGX Posts Positive Performance in Q3 2026

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) showed a positive overall performance in the third quarter (Q3) of 2026, despite experiencing increased volatility toward the end of the quarter. Market capitalization rose 10.25% to EGP 4.06 trillion, while total trading value reached EGP 7.54 trillion, up from EGP 6.91 trillion in Q2. Equity-market activity also improved, with listed stocks generating EGP 787.5 billion in trading value and 17.34 million transactions. The quarter combined strong gains in broader market indices with continued investor participation and preparations for major initial public offerings (IPOs).

In this Factsheet, we take a closer look at the EGX’s performance during the past three months.

  • EGX indices delivered broad-based gains during Q3 2026, although September’s correction moderated quarterly returns. EGX30 increased 2.79% to 51,895 points after reaching a quarterly high of 56,937, while EGX70 EWI advanced 20.14% to 18,626. EGX100 EWI gained 17.19% to 24,776, and EGX30 Capped rose 3.66% to 64,525. Market momentum was supported by stronger investor confidence and liquidity, while profit-taking, global monetary uncertainty, and geopolitical pressures increased volatility late in the quarter.
  • Sectoral performance was strongly positive, with 15 of 16 sectoral indices recording gains during Q3 2026. Energy and support services led with a 41.8% increase, followed by textiles and durables at 25.3% and contracting and construction engineering at 21.3%. At the other end, food, beverages, and tobacco was the only declining sector, falling 5.8%.
  • Listed equities recorded EGP 787.5 billion in trading value during Q3 2026, compared with EGP 563.2 billion in Q2, while traded volume increased to 207.9 billion securities from 150.8 billion. Transactions rose to 17.34 million from 12.02 million. The real estate sector led trading at EGP 147.3 billion, followed by non-bank financial services at EGP 117.2 billion and healthcare and pharmaceuticals at EGP 95.1 billion.
  • Domestic investors remained dominant in Q3 2026, accounting for 90.5% of listed-stock trading value excluding deals, compared with 6.1% for foreigners and 3.5% for Arabs. Foreign investors were net sellers by EGP 2.09 billion, while Arab investors were net buyers by EGP 567.3 million. Institutional investors were net sellers of listed stocks by EGP 5.39 billion, including deals, whereas retail investors were net buyers by the same amount. Egyptian retail investors recorded net purchases of EGP 6.35 billion, partly offsetting institutional selling.
  • The IPO pipeline strengthened the market outlook during Q3 2026. MNT-Halan set its IPO price at EGP 24.50 per share, with the offering covering 320 million shares, equivalent to 20% of the company’s capital. The public offering is scheduled for October 7–15, while the private placement will run from October 7–13. Meanwhile, Banque du Caire and Misr Life Insurance remain key components of the government’s IPO pipeline, supporting market depth and broadening investment opportunities.
  • The EGX continued to expand market infrastructure and regional cooperation during Q3 2026. On September 30, the EGX and the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation and support financial-services development. The EGX also highlighted progress in margin trading, securities lending and borrowing, short selling, bonds, and T-bills, alongside efforts to develop derivatives, futures, and carbon-credit markets. These measures, together with new tax incentives, are intended to improve liquidity, risk management, and investor participation.
