Egypt’s IPN transactions hit EGP 4.3T by end of Q2 2026

Arab Finance: Egypt’s Instant Payment Network (IPN) registered 1.47 billion transactions valued at EGP 4.33 trillion by the end of the second quarter (Q2) of 2026, said Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

Meanwhile, the number of registered customers had reached 22 million, he noted.

Abdalla stressed the importance of implementing instant payment initiatives tailored to each country's specific needs, priorities, and the maturity of its existing payment infrastructure.

He outlined three key areas of focus for the next phase: enhancing the inclusivity of instant payment services, expanding use cases within instant payment systems, and fostering regional integration alongside the development of cross-border payments.

His remarks came on the sidelines of the 50th Annual Meeting of the Council of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Authorities Governors, which was held in Abu Dhabi.

It is worth noting that the CBE and the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) recently renewed their currency swap agreement worth AED 5 billion, equivalent to EGP 69 billion, for five years.
