Arab Finance: Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat reviewed progress on the El Dabaa nuclear power plant project during a meeting with Andrey Petrov, First Deputy Director General for Nuclear Energy at Russia’s Rosatom.
The meeting addressed preparations for receiving nuclear fuel and connecting the plant’s electricity output to the national grid. It also touched upon the manufacturing of key equipment, including power-generating turbines.
Both sides discussed expanding training programs for Egyptian operational personnel and increasing domestic and international training opportunities.
Esmat reaffirmed Egypt and Russia’s commitment to the project’s implementation schedule, highlighting the plant’s role in Egypt’s strategy to expand clean energy, reduce fossil fuel consumption, strengthen energy security, and meet rising electricity demand.
He also emphasized continued coordination and monitoring to complete the project’s various stages and connect the plant to the national grid according to the established timeline.
The meeting follows recent discussions between Esmat and Rosatom Smart Utilities to establish an integrated seawater desalination project at the El Dabaa site.
