Arab Finance: Majid Al Futtaim, which holds the exclusive rights to operate Carrefour in Egypt, has partnered with Educate Me Foundation under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education to modernize educational infrastructure and strengthen learning outcomes across the country, as per an emailed press release.
The partnership’s first phase has completed the refurbishment of key facilities at eight schools across seven governorates, including playgrounds, computer and science labs, and sanitation facilities. The upgrades directly benefit more than 8,300 students, according to a company statement.
As part of the initiative, each local Carrefour store has adopted a neighboring school, providing year-round engagement through monthly activities and ongoing facility support.
Majid Al Futtaim is also launching the Children’s Education Initiative in Aswan Governorate in partnership with Educate Me Foundation. The program will use the “Teaching at the Right Level” (TaRL) methodology to strengthen reading, writing, and comprehension skills among 1,500 primary school students.
The program will also use interactive, age-appropriate learning activities to support students’ broader educational development beyond the traditional classroom.
“By working closely with the Ministry of Education and Educate Me Foundation, we are contributing to the advancement of learning environments, bridging skill gaps, and enabling young generations in the country to reach their full potential,” Mohamed Khafaga, Country Manager of Majid Al Futtaim Retail in Egypt, said.
Educate Me Foundation Executive Director Christine Safwat said the partnership represents a model of collaboration between the private sector and civil society to create sustainable change in education.
“Through the development of public-school infrastructure and strengthening literacy skills, one of the largest gaps children face in their learning journey, we are not only improving facilities; we are investing in children’s potential,” Safwat said.
The partnership forms part of Majid Al Futtaim’s broader vision for Carrefour in Egypt, positioning the retailer as a partner in advancing education, empowering future generations and supporting sustainable development.
