NBE partners with IBM, TECH-HUB to enhance disaster recovery capabilities

Arab Finance: The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has partnered with IBM and TECH-HUB, an IBM business partner, to strengthen its disaster recovery (DR) capabilities through the deployment of a scalable application-level replication framework powered by IBM Aspera FASP® technology, as per an emailed press release.

The collaboration is designed to enhance the bank's resilience and business continuity by enabling latency-independent, high-speed replication of critical application data across geographically distributed locations. Leveraging IBM Aspera, NBE has redesigned its disaster recovery approach through a high-performance replication architecture tailored to support evolving infrastructure requirements and growing data volumes.

The solution has been deployed across three geographically distributed data centers, enabling secure, reliable, and high-speed replication of critical applications while providing greater operational visibility and control. It also supports configurable resilience strategies that help maintain uninterrupted data flows and continuous operations across regions.

As part of the implementation, NBE uses IBM Aspera to securely transfer large volumes of application data between sites with consistent and predictable performance regardless of network conditions. The platform is designed to scale alongside increasing data volumes, accelerating replication cycles while minimizing the impact on existing infrastructure.

The deployment also helps the bank meet stringent recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs), strengthening data protection and operational resilience while supporting regulatory compliance through secure, auditable, end-to-end encrypted data transfers.

The initiative has already delivered measurable results. NBE has achieved reliable multisite replication and conducted disaster recovery drills with greater speed and confidence. Data transfer performance improved by up to 10 times, while disaster recovery drill completion times were reduced by 88%, falling from two hours to 15 minutes.

The bank has also gained enhanced application-level visibility, allowing for more precise monitoring and proactive management of disaster recovery processes.

The deployment is described as one of the region's most advanced implementations of application-aware, multisite data replication within the banking sector. By providing a flexible and scalable alternative to traditional storage-based replication models, the solution establishes a foundation for long-term operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, business continuity, and future growth.
