Arab Finance: Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries production index, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, rose 6.6% month-on-month (MoM) in March, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The index reached 128.14 points in March 2026, up from a final reading of 120.21 points in February, CAPMAS said.
Food manufacturing recorded one of the strongest gains during the month, with the index climbing 21.55% to 181.21 points from 149.08 points in February. CAPMAS attributed the increase to higher production during seasonal and holiday periods.
Manufacturing chemicals and chemical products also rose, with the index increasing 17.17% to 119.38 points in March from 101.89 points in February, driven by efforts to meet market demand.
On the other hand, tobacco product manufacturing declined 11.86% MoM, with the index falling to 130.34 points in March from 147.87 points in February.
