Egypt has agreed to purchase the full production of natural gas from Cyprus’ Aphrodite field under a new set of agreements aimed at strengthening supply and supporting exports.

The Egyptian government, in collaboration with the Cypriot government, is looking to establish a 90-kilometer-long underwater pipeline connecting the Cypriot Aphrodite offshore gas field to the offshore production facilities of Egypt’s Zohr gas field.

A consortium of state-owned companies is planning to construct a $40 million pipeline to transport imported US shale gas from Alexandria’s Dekheila Port to Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals (Sidpec) and the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (Ethydco).
