Arab Finance: Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait has issued a resolution lowering pre-arrival customs clearance on imports, allowing importers to pay in advance only 1%, instead of 30%, of the initially estimated customs duties and fees, according to a statement on June 3rd.
Importers will pay the remaining customs duties and fees after the arrival of shipments as per the customs tariff in force at the time of clearance, Maait highlighted.
The new decision will also allow importers to get a refund from the customs authority if the imported goods are re-exported or destroyed, he pointed out.
The move aims to facilitate customs clearance procedures as well as expand pre-arrival customs clearance services, he added.
