Arab Finance: Electrification and automation company ABB marks a century in Egypt, with local manufacturing and exports remaining central to its operations as it enters its second century in the country, according to a press release.
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) hosted the company’s anniversary gala under the slogan “Powering the Future of Egypt, One Century at a Time.” As the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization, GEM uses ABB solutions to help maintain a safe and sustainable environment for more than 100,000 ancient artifacts.
The anniversary also provided an opportunity to reflect on the relationships behind the company’s longstanding presence. Ahmed Hammad, chairman of ABB in Egypt, said: “For 100 years, ABB has grown alongside Egypt's ambitions and development, contributing to the projects, industries, and infrastructure that have helped shape the country. This milestone is not only a celebration of our history, but also of the partnerships, people, and shared achievements that have defined our journey. As we look ahead, we remain committed to supporting Egypt's industrial transformation through innovation, local expertise, and sustainable technologies that will help power the country's future for generations to come.”
ABB’s work in Egypt spans projects ranging from the Aswan High Dam to the Bahr El-Baqar Water Treatment Plant, a Guinness World Record holder, and the Toshka New Valley Development.
Across its industrial activities, ABB combines engineering expertise with digital technologies to improve productivity and resource efficiency, reflecting its global tagline, “Engineered to Outrun.”
AbdAllah Kassem, board member and electrification commercial lead at ABB in Egypt, outlined the role of the company’s electrification business in its next phase. “Through ABB’s Electrification business, we help Egypt's grid evolve, making it smarter to integrate renewables, more intelligent to handle tomorrow's demands, and locally engineered to outrun. That's what we're here to deliver: solutions that adapt, protect, and connect - locally built, globally proven. ABB employees play a vital role in bringing this vision to life. By sharing their enthusiasm for technology and problem-solving, our team offers industries a glimpse into unlimited future possibilities.”
Established in Egypt in 1926, the company now operates a 100,000-square-meter factory complex in 10th of Ramadan City, its main manufacturing hub for the Middle East and Africa. Its Egyptian footprint spans seven strategic locations and 13 production lines, supported by a local workforce serving key sectors of the economy.
Egypt has become a key manufacturing and export base within ABB’s global network. Its priorities align with the Ministry of Industry’s 2030 strategy to expand domestic production, raise exports, and strengthen Egyptian industry’s participation in global value chains.
ABB plans to draw on its international engineering network, research and development capabilities, and automation technologies to support electricity grid modernization, infrastructure resilience, and the transition to renewable energy. Investment in its local workforce and the next generation of Egyptian engineers remains part of that effort.
