Arab Finance: Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindy and India's Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K. Reddy discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, digital skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship, as well as attracting more Indian investment to Egypt’s information and communications technology sector, the Egyptian ministry said.

The talks covered potential Indian investment in outsourcing and electronics manufacturing, alongside efforts to strengthen cooperation between Egyptian and Indian institutions in training, knowledge transfer, and the exchange of technical expertise.

The two sides reviewed existing cooperation under memoranda of understanding covering information technology, cybersecurity, digital capacity building, and workforce training in information technology and electronics specializations.

Hindy said cooperation between Egypt and India in the information and communications technology sector continues to expand, underscoring the need to build on the partnership in areas including digital skills and AI.

He highlighted Egypt’s geographic location as a potential gateway for Indian companies seeking to expand into African and Middle Eastern markets. Egypt’s pool of qualified young professionals across multiple technology disciplines also offers opportunities to attract Indian investment in outsourcing and digital service exports, he added.

Reddy expressed his commitment to encouraging Indian companies to invest in Egypt. He said India will host a global conference focused on the mobile phone industry in October and highlighted the country’s manufacturing capabilities in mobile phones, electronics, and other modern industries.

India is the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, according to Reddy, who also pointed to the country’s investments in public and digital infrastructure, including the expansion of fiber-optic networks.

Furthermore, the discussions examined steps to maintain cooperation in line with current technological priorities, with a focus on expanding partnerships in training, skills development, and knowledge sharing.

The two sides also explored stronger private-sector cooperation to support entrepreneurship, innovation, and the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

In AI, the meeting covered research and development, innovation, advanced skills, knowledge exchange, and the responsible use of technology.

Hindy and Reddy also discussed increasing the participation of Egyptian companies and institutions in specialized international events and exhibitions hosted by India to identify new opportunities for partnerships.
