Egypt approves 30 PPP projects worth EGP 41B

Arab Finance: Egypt has prepared and approved 30 projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) initiative over the past period, with a combined EGP 41 billion in investment, Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk said.

Speaking during a panel discussion on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank meetings in Bangkok, Kouchouk noted that some projects have entered the implementation phase. Additional PPP projects are planned across various sectors to ensure quality in execution, management and maintenance.

He added that the government is working to enhance the investment climate through tax and customs packages, alongside incentives to support production, manufacturing, and exports. These measures form part of broader efforts to encourage private-sector participation, which currently accounts for 65% of total investments.

He also called for greater role for development banks in boosting international partnerships and mobilizing public and private capital for Africa.

He sterssed the importance of international efforts to build a stronger pipeline of bankable development projects in developing countries that can secure financing at lower costs.
