Egypt targets 6.8% growth by FY2029/30; IMF program to conclude end-December

Arab Finance: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly outlined the goals of the National Economic Transformation Program for 2027–2030, noting that the current program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is likely to conclude by the end of December 2026.

The national program aims to accelerate economic growth, boost private-sector investment, and improve key fiscal and external indicators, targeting economic growth to reach 6.8% by fiscal year (FY) 2029/2030, up from the current rate of 5.1%.

Furthermore, the government intends to raise total investment to 20% of gross domestic product (GDP) from 12.7% now, while expanding the private sector’s share of total investment from 57.7% to 67%.

On the fiscal front, Egypt seeks to increase tax revenue to 15% of GDP, while reducing interest payments as a share of government revenue from 67%–68% to 43%.

The program also targets easing inflation to between 5% and 7% from the current rate of 13.3%, along with reducing the current account deficit to 2.3% of GDP from 5.1%.

Meanwhile, the state plans to lower the unemployment rate to 5.5% from 5.8%, as part of its broader efforts to support job creation and sustain economic growth.
