Maersk resumes MECL service via Suez Canal

Arab Finance: Maersk returned to the trans-Suez route for the MECL service, following improved stability in the Red Sea, according to a press release.

The integrated logistics company affirmed that the Suez Canal is a vital maritime corridor between East and West, representing a key driver of efficient global supply chains.

Routes through the Suez, the Red Sea, and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are the fastest and most efficient way to serve customers with transport between Asia and Europe, Maersk noted.

The first sailing in the structural change of the MECL service will be the Cornelia Maersk on the westbound trans-Suez route voyage 603W, departing Jebel Ali on January 15th.

In November 2025, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and A.P. Moller-Maersk Group signed a partnership agreement for the return of Maersk-affiliated container vessels through the Suez Canal.

The agreement followed talks between the SCA’s Chairman Ossama Rabie and A.P. Moller-Maersk Group’s Vice President Camilla Jan Holts regarding the gradual resumption via the canal.
