Arab Finance: El Gouna Red Sea, the flagship year-round destination by Orascom Development Egypt, has inaugurated Solarize-2, its second solar power station, developed in partnership with SolarizEgypt, according to an emailed press release.

The new station adds 8.6 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity to El Gouna Red Sea, bringing its total installed solar capacity to 15.8 MW, following the 7.2 MW capacity established by Solarize-1.

The expansion supports El Gouna Red Sea’s target of generating more than 15% of its local energy supply from renewable sources in 2026, with further solar capacity expansions planned to increase the share of renewables.

Yaseen Abd El Ghaffar, Founder of SolarizEgypt, stated: “Through Bequest Holding, SolarizEgypt and Desal, we have invested more than EGP 1 billion in advancing El Gouna Red Sea’s green infrastructure.”

Ayman Waheed, CEO of SolarizEgypt, commented: "The expansion demonstrates that the first project delivered tangible value and created confidence to scale further. Together, SolarizEgypt and El Gouna Red Sea are building a replicable model for privately financed renewable-energy infrastructure that supports the destination’s continued growth and sustainability ambitions."

El Gouna Red Sea’s sustainability strategy focuses on water security, waste management, and resource efficiency, supported by desalination infrastructure and a $155 million IFC sustainability-linked loan tied to measurable environmental goals. The destination treats and reuses 100% of municipal wastewater and recycles up to 90% of municipal waste, while its Green Star Hotel certification program promotes sustainable practices across hotel operations.
