Vodafone, Elsewedy Electirc, Cassava target $1B investment in Egypt data center project

Arab Finance: Vodafone Business, Elsewedy Electric, and Cassava Technologies signed a joint agreement to establish Africa Data Centers Egypt project to support the country’s digital economy and scale up its data center infrastructure, as per a statement.

The project is expected to attract approximately $200 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) during its first phase, with total investment projected to reach $1 billion upon completion of the targeted capacity. It is also expected to create up to 200 direct jobs and approximately 2,000 indirect jobs.

The project will initially develop 20 megawatts (MW) of capacity over its first three years, with plans to scale up to 200 MW.

As part of the partnership, the companies will also launch Egypt’s first sovereign AI data center, offering advanced computing capabilities powered by NVIDIA technologies, alongside locally delivered GPU-as-a-Service solutions.

The facility will enable organizations to develop and operate AI applications while keeping their data within Egypt, supporting data sovereignty and the country’s growing demand for AI infrastructure.

The announcement builds on the company’s investments in Egypt over the past 28 years, which have exceeded EGP 125 billion. Vodafone Business also plans to invest more than EGP 20 billion in Egypt during fiscal year (FY) 2026/2027.
