Egypt removes tycoon Safwan Thabet from terrorist list

Arab Finance: The Cairo Criminal Court has removed the name of the businessman Safwan Thabet from Egypt’s terrorist list, according to an emailed press release to Arab Finance on February 9th.

On January 21st, Safwan, the founder and former CEO of Juhayna Food Industries, and his son Seif El-Din were released from prison after a two-year detention.

The father and his son were jailed due to accusations of belonging to and funding a terrorist organization associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

They were also accused of abetting attacks against the army and police troops in an attempt to destroy the national economy.

Thabet was kept in pretrial detention since December 2020, and two months later in February 2021, Seif El-Din was also arrested.
