BasharSoft report examines women's participation in Egypt's labor market

Arab Finance: BasharSoft, the company behind Wuzzuf, has released its first report on women in Egypt's labor market, analyzing participation trends, hiring outcomes, and challenges facing women across different career stages, as per a press release.

The report is based on Wuzzuf data from January to December 2025, covering more than 5.4 million job applications submitted by over 400,000 active job seekers across more than 50,000 job postings. The analysis examines application behavior, employer engagement, interview progression, and salary expectations.

According to the report, women account for around 53% of university graduates in Egypt but represent 33% of university-educated workers and 29% of the overall workforce.

The findings show that applications submitted by women received 6.2% more employer views than those submitted by men and generated 1.4% higher rates of employer outreach and interview opportunities per application.

However, women represented 41% of job seekers on Wuzzuf in 2025 while accounting for 29% of total job applications submitted through the platform. On average, women applied for 10.6 jobs compared with 14 jobs per male applicant.

The report also identified a gap between demand for remote work and the availability of such opportunities. While 18% of women preferred fully remote jobs, only 7% of job postings offered remote work arrangements.

In terms of career stages, students and fresh graduates accounted for 51% of female users on the platform, compared with 37% of male users. Meanwhile, experienced and managerial professionals represented 45% of women on the platform versus 57% of men.

The report found that women's salary expectations generally aligned with the salary ranges of the positions they applied for, while men's expectations exceeded upper salary bands by up to 12%.

It also showed that gender-neutral job postings offered average salaries of EGP 19,000, compared with EGP 18,000 for male-targeted roles and EGP 13,000 for female-targeted positions.

According to BasharSoft, the report is the first in a series of labor market studies intended to provide employers, policymakers, and job seekers with data on employment trends and labor market dynamics.
