Cabinet extends Sunday remote work policy through May 2026

Arab Finance: Egypt’s Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, approved the continuation of a remote work system on Sundays for all employees in entities covered under the relevant decree throughout May 2026, as per a statement.

The decision came during the Cabinet’s meeting, where it endorsed a draft resolution submitted by the Prime Minister to extend the provisions of Prime Ministerial Decree No. 982 of 2026.

The decree mandates the implementation of remote work arrangements on Sundays across specified establishments and government entities.

In March, Madbouly decided to introduce a remote work system for one day a week for employees across both the public and private sectors, as part of a broader effort to reduce energy consumption.

The decision took effect as of the first Sunday of last April, and was planned to run for one month so the government could assess the trial period and decide on extending the policy or increasing the number of remote work days if it proves effective.
