Arab Finance: The US dollar regained some strength on Tuesday, August 25, as investors parsed Washington's expanded sanctions against Iran and renewed efforts to ease pressure on longer-dated treasury yields.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled an expansion of sanctions against Iran on Monday, warning countries to cut business ties with Tehran or risk being forced out of the dollar-based financial system.
In Egypt, the US dollar was quoted at EGP 50.77 for buying and EGP 50.87 for selling at Banque Misr, the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), ALEXBANK, and the United Bank of Egypt as of 10:06 a.m. Cairo time.
At the Commercial International Bank (CIB), the dollar was also quoted at EGP 50.77 for buying and EGP 50.87 for selling.
On August 24, the dollar had hovered near multi-month lows as markets were unsettled by the US Treasury's plan to buy back more long-dated bonds, while international traders awaited details of sanctions on Iran and policy speeches in the US and Japan.
