Egypt disburses EGP 35B under tourism financing initiative

Arab Finance: Egypt is supporting tourism through financing initiatives, including an EGP 50 billion program to stimulate investment in the sector, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy said.

Fathy added that around EGP 35 billion has already been disbursed under the initiative, which will be extended to ensure continued financing for tourism projects.

The ministry also seeks to welcome 30 million visitors annually, a target that could rise to 60 million to 70 million tourists annually in the long term.

During Egypt Forum 2026, Fathy addressed the impact of recent regional challenges and anticipated fuel price increases, noting that the government had introduced new three-month incentive packages to back airline seat capacity and mitigate potential repercussions.

To accommodate the expected rise in inbound tourism, Egypt is expanding its hotel capacity, with projects currently under construction or development set to add approximately 35,000 hotel rooms.

Last September, BMI expected in a report that tourist arrivals to Egypt would increase by 6.3% to around 20.19 million in 2026, before rising to 23.78 million by 2030.
