Arab Finance: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid inaugurated the Egypt-France Business Forum 2026 in Paris, highlighting the private sector's increased share of total investments in Egypt, according to a statement.
Farid said the private sector’s share of total investments now accounts for around 65%, up from less than 40% previously.
Egypt attracted around $15.5 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) during 2025, accounting for about 22% of Africa’s total inflows, according to a UNCTAD report.
The minister noted that Egypt’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth reached 5.1% in fiscal year (FY) 2025/2026, while unemployment fell to 5.8% in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026.
The Egyptian Exchange’s (EGX) current market cap rose to EGP 4.5 trillion from less than EGP 300 billion in 2011.
Farid noted that Egypt seeks to position itself as a production and export hub linking Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, supported by competitive operating costs and preferential access to more than 100 markets.
It is worth noting that bilateral trade between Egypt and France reached approximately €3.08 billion in 2025, including €1.22 billion in Egyptian exports to France. French investments in Egypt stand at around $8.5 billion, with more than 180 French companies operating directly in the country.
