Arab Finance: Amazon’s cumulative investments have contributed more than EGP 29 billion to Egypt’s gross domestic product (GDP) over the past decade, as per an emailed press release.
According to analysis by the economic consultancy Keystone Strategy, the company's investments across infrastructure, technology, and logistics have also supported more than 60,000 direct, indirect, induced, and seasonal jobs nationwide.
The findings were unveiled at the Global Entrepreneurship Festival, Africa’s largest entrepreneurship event, held in Cairo under the auspices of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Amazon has steadily expanded its presence in Egypt since acquiring Souq.com in 2017 and launching Amazon.eg in 2021, broadening its services and investments in the local market.
Amazon Now, among the group’s latest offerings, is a rapid delivery service providing groceries, fresh produce sourced from local farmers, and everyday household essentials within minutes through a network of micro-fulfillment centers across the country.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to empowering entrepreneurs, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and investing in local talent, technology, and infrastructure to support the Egyptian economy.
Omar Elsahy, General Manager for Amazon Egypt, commented: “The figures we are sharing today are not just a measure of our investment. They reflect the ambition of Egyptian entrepreneurs, the resilience of local businesses and the talent of a workforce that continues to deliver. We are proud of what we have built here, and we intend to keep building.”
In July, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid held talks with Elsahy to discuss the company's expansion strategy in the Egyptian market. The discussions focused on improving the business environment, supporting the digital economy, and reinforcing Egypt's position as a regional hub for e-commerce, technology, and digital services.
