Egypt, Amazon discuss expansion plans, digital economy

Arab Finance: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid met with Omar Elsahy, General Manager of Amazon Egypt, to discuss the company's expansion strategy in the Egyptian market, according to a statement.

The discussions focused on improving the business environment, supporting the digital economy, and reinforcing Egypt's position as a regional hub for e-commerce, technology, and digital services.

Farid reiterated the government's commitment to attracting high-value investments in the digital economy and tech sectors as part of its broader strategy to improve the investment climate and facilitate doing business.

The ministry is working closely with relevant authorities to address investors' challenges, enhance Egypt's competitiveness, and encourage greater domestic and foreign inflows, he added.

For his part, Elsahy said Amazon's customer service center in Egypt has become one of the company's key regional hubs, providing multilingual customer support to several international markets, particularly in Africa and Mexico, through a highly skilled Egyptian workforce.

He also asserted that the center plays a key role in supporting Egypt's business process outsourcing (BPO) and digital business services sectors, reinforcing the country's position as a regional hub for cross-border services.

Moreover, the meeting addressed a number of regulatory and legislative matters related to Amazon's operations in Egypt.
