Arab Finance: US-based glass manufacturer Guardian Glass has opened a $25 million high-performance glass production line at its factory in 10th of Ramadan City, with 80% of its output designated for Gulf and other international markets, as per a statement.
The new line uses vacuum coating technology to improve the optical, thermal, and mechanical properties of locally produced glass. The technology is expected to increase the competitiveness of Egyptian products and raise local value added.
The line will produce Guardian SunGuard solar control glass, which manages solar heat while maintaining natural light, and Guardian ClimaGuard Low-E glass. The products are designed to improve insulation and reduce cooling requirements in residential and commercial buildings.
The project is expected to create around 30 specialized engineering and operational jobs, supported by training on the new technology, in addition to hundreds of indirect employment opportunities.
During the inauguration, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid said the expansion of an existing investor and the injection of additional capital into Egypt signal confidence in the competitiveness and attractiveness of the country’s economy.
He added that the state is seeking investments that localize technology, increase the use of local components, add value to the economy, and strengthen Egypt’s presence in global supply chains. Private-sector investment is also a key driver of employment, investment, and economic growth, he noted.
The Ministry of Investment is working to simplify investment procedures and digitize the investor journey by establishing an integrated electronic system covering approvals, licenses, and other investment services, Farid noted.
He encouraged Guardian Glass to explore voluntary carbon market mechanisms by issuing carbon credits based on the energy savings generated by its products, in cooperation with accredited verification bodies. He said such a move could increase competitiveness, add value to sales, and create opportunities for financial institutions seeking to reduce their carbon footprints.
Guardian Glass has operated in Egypt since 2003. Its factory in 10th of Ramadan City employs around 207 people and supplies high-performance glass to local and regional markets.
