Arab Finance: The National Investment Bank (NIB) recorded a net profit of nearly EGP 6 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2024/2025, reversing losses of EGP 31.7 billion a year earlier, according to a statement by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
The results were announced during a meeting of the NIB’s board of directors, chaired by Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom, who also serves as the bank’s chairman. The board reviewed the bank’s performance and progress on its restructuring plan and its role as a development and strategic arm of the state.
The meeting also examined efforts to resolve longstanding financial entanglements between the NIB and government entities. Two framework agreements were signed in June 2026 to settle debts totaling more than EGP 196 billion, some dating back to the 1980s.
The settlements involved subsidiaries of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater and the General Authority for Reconstruction Projects and Agricultural Development. Work is continuing to settle the bank’s remaining outstanding debts.
Rostom said the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development would continue implementing the bank’s restructuring plan and resolving outstanding financial matters, with ongoing oversight from Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Looking ahead, the board discussed developing a mechanism to finance infrastructure through innovative funding tools. The plan includes establishing strategic partnerships with the World Bank and other international financial institutions, alongside cooperation among the Ministries of Finance and Planning and Economic Development and NIB subsidiaries.
