Arab Finance: Shalateen Mineral Resource Company increased its gold production by about 9.6% year on year in the first nine months of 2026, exceeding 850 kilograms, an official source told Al Arabiya Business.
The increase, calculated through the final week of September, was driven by higher production from companies operating in Shalateen’s concession areas and the expansion of small-scale mining activities in the Eastern Desert, the official added.
The higher output also boosted the amount of gold delivered to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), which rose by about 75 kilograms from around 775 kilograms during the same period last year, he noted.
Shalateen delivered around 260 kilograms of gold in the third quarter (Q3) of 2026, including quantities targeted for the final week of September, accounting for about 31% of total gold deliveries during the first nine months of the year, according to the official.
For Q4 2026, the company expects production of 250 to 280 kilograms as extraction rates increase, the source said. Shalateen is working to improve operating efficiency and expand activity in its concession areas. It also plans to open new areas to artisanal mining and formalize more workers’ activities to increase the volume of gold entering official channels.
Alongside those plans, Shalateen is working with the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA) to expand mining complexes, including a gold and silver extraction complex in Aswan Governorate. The effort is intended to bring unregulated mining into approved production and marketing channels.
Shalateen aims to raise annual gold production to approximately 6 tons by 2030 through further exploration, production, and expansion into new areas, with a goal of increasing returns from gold sales. The authority’s name reflects its restructuring under a 2025 law.
