Egypt, Qatar sign MoU to boost LNG, energy cooperation

Arab Finance: Egypt and Qatar penned a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation in the sale and import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other energy domains, according to a statement.

The deal marks a key step towards diversifying the supply sources of natural gas and expanding the cooperation horizons to provide gas shipments.

This will help secure local demand while boosting domestic production, which will create added value and anchor Egypt's role as a regional gas trade hub.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi signed the MoU with Qatari Minister of Energy Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, who is also the CEO and President of QatarEnergy.

QatarEnergy's activities in Egypt are mainly concentrated in the Mediterranean region, and it currently operates in six offshore blocks.

The company plans to inject new investments over the next five years and drill a number of exploratory wells in cooperation with several major international energy companies.

In the same vein, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and QatarEnergy signed the terms of the implementation mechanism for the delivery of several shipments of Qatari LNG to the ports of Ain Sokhna and Damietta.
