Arab Finance: Egypt has received €1 billion in macro-financial assistance (MFA) from the European Union (EU), announced Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat.
The funding marks the second phase of the €5 billion MFA package, which was signed between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the European Commission’s Head Ursula von der Leyen in December 2024.
In January 2025, Egypt secured €1 billion, as part of the program’s first phase.
The second phase is structured into three tranches, of which the €1 billion disbursed earlier on Thursday, January 15th, marks the first tranche. Meanwhile, the second and third tranches of this phase will be granted throughout 2026.
Al-Mashat highlighted that the grant comes within the state’s efforts to support the macroeconomic budget and secure financing for various programs and projects.
She added that 38 reforms have been implemented under Egypt's National Structural Reform Program (NSRP), under the strategic partnership with the EU.
During a recent meeting with El-Sisi, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas affirmed that Egypt is and will remain a strategic partner for the EU.
