El-Sisi announces EGP 1,500 grant to support informal workers for 3 months

Arab Finance: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced a package of measures to support workers, including an EGP 1,500 monthly grant for informal workers, as per a statement.

The grant will be disbursed to informal workers registered with the Ministry of Labor for three months, from May to July 2026, as part of efforts to provide temporary income support.

In parallel, certain categories of informal workers will be exempted from fees for skill level certificates and professional licenses, a step aimed at facilitating their integration into the formal economy and expanding access to social protection.

The measures also include an increase in compensation for work-related incidents. Compensation for death in workplace accidents will rise from EGP 200,000 to EGP 300,000, while compensation for total or partial disability will be adjusted in line with the degree of disability.

As part of broader labor market reforms, the government will launch a labor market platform designed to boost employment rates domestically and internationally, while offering opportunities to develop young people’s skills in line with market demand.

During his participation in the Labor Day celebration held at the headquarters of the National Egyptian Railway Industries Company (NERIC) in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), El-Sisi also directed the formation of two permanent committees to address structural challenges in the labor market.

The first will include representatives from the Ministries of Labor, Industry, Investment and Foreign Trade, and Planning and Economic Development, and will focus on responding to labor market needs. The second will bring together the Ministries of Labor, Education, Technical Education, and Higher Education and Scientific Research to ensure that education and training outputs are aligned with labor market requirements.

The president requested periodic reports on the outcomes of both committees’ work to monitor progress and implementation.
