As the summer harvest season progresses, grape cultivation reaches one of its most active periods across Egypt. Grapes are among the country's most important horticultural crops, contributing significantly to agricultural production, export earnings, and rural livelihoods. Favorable climatic conditions, diverse production areas, and a prolonged harvesting season have strengthened Egypt's position as a reliable supplier of high-quality table grapes to international markets.
This factsheet examines the importance of Egypt’s grape sector, highlighting its production, export performance, and contribution to the national economy.
Egypt cultivates approximately 185,608 feddans, ranking 2nd globally in terms of cultivated area of grapes. This area accounts for 10.3% of the country’s total fruit cultivation area.- During the 2025/2026 marketing year, Egypt produced around 1.67 million tons of grapes. While the cultivated area recorded a modest increase of 1.4%, overall grape production jumped by 1%, indicating higher productivity compared to the previous season.
- Egypt’s grape production volume accounted for 6% of the world’s total production in 2025/2026. This share has put the country in 5th place among the world’s largest grape producers after China, India, Brazil, and Uzbekistan.
- Beheira Governorate, including Nobaria City, is responsible for 66.6% of Egypt’s production with 1.12 million tons. Minya and Gharbia came in 2nd and 3rd places with shares of 12.2% and 4.7%, respectively.
- In 2025, Egypt exported around 169,834 tons of grapes worth $454 million to the global markets, with a remarkable annual increase of 48%, compared to $307.6 million. Egypt ranked 10th among the world’s top exporters of grapes with a market share of 3.3%.
- The country was able to access 89 global markets, where the majority of these exports were shipped to the UK, with $117.6 million in exports, equivalent to 25.9% of Egypt’s total grape exports in 2025. The Netherlands came second with $75.4 million or 16.6%. Russia followed with $61.3 million, representing 13.5% of Egypt’s grape exports.
- The per capita supply of grapes in Egypt recorded 11.8 kilograms in 2024, which represented around a 4% year-on-year (YoY) decline compared to 12.3 kilograms in 2023.
