Women in Egypt hold 19.7% of board seats in 2022: Report

Arab Finance: The percentage of women on Egyptian company boards rose to 19.7% in 2022, marking a yearly growth rate of 26.6%, according to the Egypt 2022 Women on Boards (WoB) Observatory Annual Monitoring report.

The number of women who sat on Egyptian boards last year was 1,320, compared to 1,043 in 2021, the report showed.

The report collects data on the boards of nearly 1,000 companies, including 676 non-banking financial services (NBFS) firms, 236 EGX-listed companies, 82 public sector enterprises, and 34 banks.

The report revealed that the percentage of women on boards has doubled since 2019, when women represented only 10% of board members, marking an average annual growth of 32.1% during the last four years.

If the country maintained this growth rate of women representation on boards, it could reach the WoB Observatory’s target of holding 30% of board seats by 2026, the report stated.

It added that the NBFS companies achieved a 22% representation of women on boards last year, while the EGX-listed companies came in second place with 17%.

Meanwhile, women representation on the boards of the banking sector reached 16.5%, while the percentage of females holding board seats in public enterprise companies was 9%.
