Arab Finance: China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone is negotiating with the Egyptian government to secure an additional 10 square kilometers within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), a move that would nearly double its current area, Senior Marketing Promotions Manager at TEDA Mohamed Gebrel told Asharq Business.
Gebrel said the proposed expansion is intended to accommodate growing demand from investors planning new projects in the zone.
The talks follow several expansions in recent years that have brought TEDA’s total area to about 10.2 square kilometers.
TEDA currently houses around 200 industrial and service companies across sectors including manufacturing, building materials, textiles, engineering equipment, chemicals, and logistics.
The zone is now targeting investments in high-value-added industries, including new and renewable energy, solar energy components, green hydrogen-related industries, advanced engineering, automotive components, electrical appliances, and modern technology, according to Gabril.
Launched 18 years ago as Africa’s first Chinese industrial zone, TEDA is a joint Egyptian-Chinese investment project within SCZONE aimed at strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
The zone has attracted investments exceeding $3.8 billion from international and regional companies, while cumulative sales have surpassed $6.6 billion, Gebrel revealed. Its tax contributions have reached about $310 million, and it has created more than 10,000 direct jobs.
