EGX, National Media Authority sign protocol to expand financial literacy, economic coverage

Arab Finance: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) and the National Media Authority have signed a cooperation protocol to promote financial literacy and broaden coverage of economic news and capital market developments across state media channels and platforms, as per a statement.

The agreement was signed by EGX Vice Chairman Mohamed Sabry and Mohamed Ibrahim, Head of the authority’s Television Sector, in the presence of Ahmed El-Moslemany, Chairman of the National Media Authority, and Omar Radwan, Executive Chairman of the EGX. Manal El-Daftar, head of Egyptian Television’s First Channel, also attended alongside senior officials from both institutions.

The partnership aims to strengthen public understanding of the EGX as a vehicle for long-term savings and investment. Drawing on the reach and influence of national media, it will explain trading mechanisms and address gaps in financial knowledge among viewers beyond the investment community.

Under the protocol, the two institutions will establish a regular flow of information to support daily and weekly economic coverage. They will also develop accessible visual content, including segments titled Two Words on the Economy, featuring contributions from market experts and analysts.

Workshops will help media professionals strengthen their economic reporting skills, while the EGX’s heritage and historic downtown headquarters will support efforts to promote promising businesses. A joint coordination committee will oversee implementation and turn the agreement’s objectives into sustained programs serving the national economy.

El-Moslemany said implementation would begin immediately, with national television channels working to strengthen economic coverage and explain the EGX’s role. He described the agreement as the beginning of a broader phase of cooperation and pledged continued media support for the exchange’s activities and operations.

Highlighting the EGX’s importance to the national economy, he noted that Egyptian television already covers market developments through specialized economic programs and segments aimed at general audiences. The authority remains committed to keeping citizens informed about market indices and daily trading, he added.

Teams at the First Channel, also known as Al-Oula, and other Egyptian television channels have been instructed to explain economic concepts and market operations in clear language, El-Moslemany said. The objective is to make this information accessible to millions of households, as well as investors and specialists.

Radwan linked the initiative to the broader challenge of deepening Egypt’s capital market. Modern financial instruments, technology and legislative frameworks alone are insufficient, he said, emphasizing the need for a lasting investment culture that enables citizens to make informed financial decisions.

Cooperation with Maspero offers a practical way to bring economic knowledge to a wider public, Radwan said. He explained that clearer explanations of financial concepts, trading indicators and investment mechanisms could strengthen retail investor confidence and encourage broader public ownership of listed companies.

Such efforts would also reinforce understanding of the EGX’s role in financing businesses and supporting economic development, he added.

Radwan said the partnership would provide a reliable flow of official data, improving reporting accuracy and supporting objective analysis of the national economy and financial market developments. By combining the expertise and resources of both institutions, the protocol seeks to improve how investment issues are presented to the public.
