Egypt, IFAD sign €58.22M financing deal for sustainable agricultural development

Arab Finance: Egypt and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) signed a €58.22 million concessional development financing agreement and a $470,000 grant agreement to support sustainable agricultural and rural development, as per a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates.

The development financing will fund the Climate-Resilient on-Farm Water Management in the Nile Valley (CROWN) project, which falls under the food pillar of Egypt’s Nexus of Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) national platform.

CROWN aims to improve water-use efficiency and strengthen the agricultural sector’s capacity to adapt to climate change.

By optimizing water resource management, the project seeks to increase agricultural productivity, improve food security, and support the livelihoods of farmers and rural communities.

Complementing the water management project, the $470,000 grant will support Positioning Egypt for Agricultural Resilience and Leadership (PEARL). It is provided through the China-IFAD South-South and Triangular Cooperation Facility, funded by China’s Ministry of Finance.

The grant will support the transfer and adoption of sustainable agricultural technologies, climate adaptation practices, and digital farming solutions to improve agricultural productivity. It marks a practical model of triangular cooperation that supports sustainable rural development and strengthens Egypt’s role in agricultural resilience.
