Egypt’s Mobile Wallet Boom in H1 2026

Egypt’s mobile wallet ecosystem continued to expand, reflecting the growing adoption of digital financial services. The total number of mobile wallets in the first half (H1) of 2026 reached 57.01 million, representing a year-on-year (YoY) growth rate of 23%, up from 46.33 million. The prevalence rate of mobile wallets increased from 39% in H1 2025 to 45% in H1 2026, recording an annual increase of 15%.

In this Factsheet, we highlight the key facts and figures on the performance of mobile wallets in Egypt in H1 2026.

  • Males dominated the scene, accounting for 38 million wallets, equivalent to 67% of the total, while the remaining 19 million wallets (33%) were owned by females, which might reflect inequality in access to financial services.
  • The majority of mobile wallet owners (25%, or 14.5 million wallets) were in the age bracket between 36 and 45 years, followed by 14.1 million wallets owned by people between 26 and 35 years.
  • As for the geographical distribution of mobile wallets in Egypt, Cairo came at the top of all governorates, with 10.6 million wallets (19%), followed by 6.5 million wallets in Giza (11%), and 3.6 million wallets in Sharqia (6%).
  • Vodafone Cash had the lion’s share of the total mobile wallets, with 53%, followed by e& Cash at 23%, Orange Cash at 20%, and We Pay at only 4%.
  • As for active mobile wallets, Vodafone Cash acquired 57%. e& came second, with a market share of 24%, followed by Orange Cash with 17%, while We Pay came last, with 2% of active mobile wallets in Egypt during H1 2026.
  • The number of transactions through mobile wallets hiked by 62% YoY from 1.7 billion in H1 2025 to 2.22 billion transactions in H1 2026.
  • Transactions in H1 2026 included 54% in money transfers from one wallet to another, 25% in recharges, whether for mobiles or the internet, 13% in deposits, 4% in withdrawals, and 4% in other payments, including charity and bill payments.
  • Transactions corresponded to the distribution of mobile wallets, as 69% of these transactions took place using Vodafone Cash wallets, while 20% were through e& Cash. Orange Cash acquired 10% of these transactions, while We Pay represented only 1%.
  • In H1 2026, the value of all transactions made using mobile wallets reached EGP 2.96 trillion, up from EGP 1.9 trillion in H1 2026, which represented a YoY growth rate of 56%.
  • The EGP 2.96 trillion was distributed as follows: 67% for money transfers from one wallet to another, 17% for cash deposits, 12% for cash withdrawals, 34% for other payments, including charity and bill payments, and 1% for mobile and internet recharges.
  • Vodafone Cash accounted for 77% of the value of transactions (EGP 2.07 trillion), followed by e& Cash (4%), Orange Cash (8%), and We Pay (1%).
